Have you ever watched someone playing the piano and wished that you could or that you'd stuck with it when you were younger. It's never too early or too late to start (our youngest student so far has been 3 and our oldest 73!)  Learning piano is an established step-by-step process that you can take at your own pace.

Where can you learn piano or keyboards in Geelong?

In your lessons, you will play music you love and learn by playing together with your teacher. The Piano Room is equipped with a Kawai baby-grand that is beautiful to play.  You'll learn classical piano method with notation reading as a fundamental, and will progress naturally through learning to play scales and chords.  If you're also interested in singing, you'll be able to sing and develop your vocal technique as you learn piano. If you are more interested in contemporary music and keyboard, you can apply your skills to the keyboard in the Band Room as you progress.

Theory is an integral part of learning music and becoming a musician, but Pino teaches theory by integrating it with playing the piano. You'll practice your scales at the same time as you learn to play songs, with lessons split evenly between theory and playing. Key concepts will be gradually introduced as you learn to keep it interesting and relevant to you.

If you are already experienced on piano, we will assess your skills and work on strengthening any gaps in your technique, theory and reading skills. You'll be encouraged and challenged to sharpen your technique, broaden your skills and notation reading, but also to develop your musicianship and creativity as a pianist. We can also help you to develop your performance, vocal and songwriting skills.

We can also guide students in preparing for AMEB examinations to achieve formal grading.

Piano lessons are available for all ages.  Contact us to discuss your individual goals and needs.

Learning PIANO FAQs

What is the best age to start learning piano or keyboards?

Age is no barrier to starting piano - we've had students as young as 4 and lots of people start or return to learning piano when they are older or in retirement.

Do I need to read music to learn piano or keyboards?

No, we will teach you to read music as you learn piano. If you’re just interested in playing chords on a keyboard for contemporary songs, we can do that too!

Do I need a piano to start learning?

You can start without having a piano but you will soon need a piano, digital piano or keyboard to practice on. A secondhand digital piano can be a great option. Pino will be happy to guide you if you are looking at buying a piano or keyboard before learning.

Why should I learn piano with a teacher?

Piano can be a difficult instrument to learn by yourself. It’s easy to pick out a tune but learning to read music and play with two hands usually requires formal learning with an experienced piano teacher. You’ll be guided in stages by someone who understands music theory and reading, and you’ll start out developing good technique. Learning with a teacher can help you to develop faster, with genuine feedback that helps you to correct technique and grow your skills.
